Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for North Point

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Point). They put the hurt on the Westlake Wolverines with a sharp 17-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Alyssa Blaney was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, North Point let Sophia Weedin and Emily Yanick run wild. Weedin scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Yanick scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that Yanick snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Gilmore, who scored a run.

North Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was North Point's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Westlake, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. North Point will square off against rival Chopticon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Westlake is set to face off against their familiar foe Thomas Stone on Monday.
