Basketball Recap: Hazlehurst Find Success

Hazlehurst had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped up to 7-2 to make it four. They had just enough and edged out the Wesson Cobras 67-64. While the Indians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

It was another big night for Kavarrious Crawford, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Semaj Walker was another key player, putting up 12 points along with six boards and four steals.

Hazlehurst smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

As for Wesson, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6. On the bright side, the 64- point performance marked their highest-scoring game to date.

Wesson's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damarion Smith, who posted 21 points. Another player making a difference was Kemari Brown, who scored 14 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hazlehurst will take on Muddy River HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians will be up against the Counselors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.83 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Wesson, they will square off against Salem at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
