Baseball Recap: Cypress Bay Comes Up Short

Cypress Bay was the 6-4 winner over Everglades when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Cypress Bay Lightning fell 4-1 to the Everglades Gators on Wednesday.

Collin Hatfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Cypress Bay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Sanchez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Cypress Bay now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Everglades, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cypress Bay will face off against Nova at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nova is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season. As for Everglades, they will challenge Mater Lakes Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
