Basketball Recap: Socorro Comes Up Short

Socorro lost against Eastwood back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Socorro Bulldogs were beaten by the Eastwood Troopers 65-20. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.

Socorro's loss came despite strong showings from Elizabeth Gonzalez and Andrea Caballero. Gonzalez posted two points along with nine boards and three steals, while Caballero had seven points. That's the most steals Gonzalez has posted since back in November of 2024.

Abigail Ortega was her usual excellent self, going 8 of 10 on her way to 23 points and four steals for Eastwood. Ortega has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Danika Sifuentes, who went 8 for 12 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Socorro's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Eastwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Eastlake the next time they take the court. Eastwood will host Eastlake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Socorro will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st.
