Basketball Recap: Gatewood Comes Up Short

Gatewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through an 82-47 loss at the hands of the Mount de Sales Academy Cavaliers. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 554th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 275th).

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bennett Haley, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten assists. Brady Haley was another key player, putting up ten points.

Gatewood's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gatewood will take on Windsor Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators will be up against the Knights' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.45 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mount de Sales Academy, they will square off against First Presbyterian Day at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 55 points in their last eight games.
