Basketball Recap: Lake County Takes a Loss

Lake County won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They were dealt an 80-45 loss at the hands of the DSST: Cedar Falcons.

When it comes to explaining why Lake County lost, don't look at Isaiah Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead DSST: Cedar to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matt Stophel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Stophel is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Semahje Kalanda was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

Lake County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for DSST: Cedar, their record now sits at 2-3.

Lake County will welcome Middle Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Middle Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season. As for DSST: Cedar, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on KIPP Denver Collegiate at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
