Baseball Recap: Pike County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Emmanuel Christian on Saturday, Pike County came back down to earth. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Houston County Lions by a score of 20-19 on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (ten), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Reid Price was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Pike County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-4 otherwise. Price was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Daniel Collins made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Pittman, who earned three runs and five stolen bases.

Pike County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Houston County, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-5 record.

Pike County has already played their next contest, a 23-0 defeat against Straughn on the 12th. As for Houston County, they will square off against Ashford at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
