Softball Recap: Columbia's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Columbia came into Friday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Tri-Cities Prep Jaguars with a sharp 12-0 win on Friday. Considering the Coyotes have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Columbia got a big performance out of Taya Riner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Riner has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Cadence Mehlenbacher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

The victory got Columbia back to even at 8-8. As for Tri-Cities Prep, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Columbia beat the Jaguars by a score of 17-2 later that day.
