The Riverside Rangers will head out to square off against the San Elizario Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Riverside is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 23-13 to Las Cruces.
Julie Muniz was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and one double while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Cassandra Acosta was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Muniz wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Riverside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. San Elizario narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Canutillo 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for San Elizario.
Abigail Rios made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carylin Venegas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Vivian Salcedo, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
San Elizario's record now sits at 5-15-1. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like San Elizario struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
