Basketball Recap: Cross Comes Up Short

Cross was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 45-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stall Warriors. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-40 last Tuesday.

Loss or not, Cross got some senior leadership from Lauren Middleton and Kierra Wright. Middleton posted six points along with five assists and five boards, while Wright dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Middleton a new career-high in blocks (three).

Tamiyah Spillers had a dynamite game for Stall, going 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. Spillers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaelya Nelson, who had six points and 11 rebounds.

Cross' defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Stall, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Cross didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-16 loss against Colleton County on the 28th. As for Stall, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 34-31 victory against Woodland on the 28th.
