Softball Recap: Walden Grove Find Success

Walden Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sahuaro, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Walden Grove's pitcher stepped up to hand Sahuaro a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Red Wolves, who have now won four matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Oliviah Valdez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Natalie Holzer was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Isabel Higuera, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Walden Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got Walden Grove back to even at 6-6. As for Sahuaro, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Walden Grove will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sahuaro: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
