Softball Game Preview: Clark Cougars vs. Brandeis Broncos

The Clark Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Brandeis Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clark will be strutting in after a win while Brandeis will be coming in after a loss.

Clark hadn't beaten Madison on the road since April 19, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Mavericks with a sharp 13-3 victory.

Rylee Luna tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Charlie Keck, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Alyna Marrufo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Brandeis was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 8-2 to Churchill. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Marina Pichardo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peyton Miers and Reagan Gallegos stepped up to the plate in a big way. Miers went 1-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base, while Gallegos went 2-for-3 with one home run. Miers has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Brandeis' defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Clark, their record is now 8-12.

Clark couldn't quite get it done against Brandeis in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 10-5. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
