Football Recap: Omaha Central Starts Season with Win Against Bellevue West

Omaha Central had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They slipped by the Bellevue West Thunderbirds 29-28 on Friday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 28-12 in the third quarter.

Omaha Central can attribute much of their success to B.J. Newsome, who threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground.

Omaha Central didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Bellevue West to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Eagles hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.48 or higher in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Bellevue West lost, don't look at Will Anderson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 46 yards and a pair of scores.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Central will face off against Omaha South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bellevue West, they will square off against Elkhorn South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
