Softball Game Preview: Fargo North Spartans vs. Fargo Davies Eagles

The Fargo North Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Fargo Davies Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fargo North knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Fargo Davies likes a good challenge.

If Fargo North beats Fargo Davies with 20 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Spartans put the hurt on Valley City with a sharp 20-14 win on Tuesday. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Fargo Davies fell victim to Red River and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roughriders. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Roughriders: they've now lost five in a row.

Fargo North's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Fargo Davies, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Fargo North came out on top in a nail-biter against Fargo Davies in their previous matchup back in May of 2018, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
