Softball Game Preview: Civic Memorial Eagles vs. Mascoutah Indians

Civic Memorial and Mascoutah are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Civic Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Civic Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat Waterloo and fell 4-3.

Megan Griffith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Thien was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Wade, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah made easy work of Jersey on Monday and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Indians have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Civic Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Mascoutah, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-7.

Civic Memorial was able to grind out a solid victory over Mascoutah in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 12-7. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
