Basketball Recap: Monmouth-Roseville Comes Up Short

Monmouth-Roseville fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Illini West on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 52-44 to the Illini West Chargers. The Titans' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Illini West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wesley Robertson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Robertson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Stephen Sparks, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Monmouth-Roseville's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Illini West, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monmouth-Roseville will host Rockridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Illini West, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Rushville-Industry at 7:30 p.m.
