Baseball Recap: Varela Takes Down Archbishop Mccarthy in a Playoff Battle

Varela had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks 8-7 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Vipers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The team relied heavily on Jonathan Paniagua, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Yoidi Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Varela hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Archbishop McCarthy struck out eight times.

Varela pushed their record up to 19-7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop McCarthy, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-12.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Mavericks beat Varela by a score of 8-4 on Thursday.
