Mountain Brook had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They walked away with a 60-53 win over the Somerset Academy Panthers. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 15th in Alabama, while the Panthers are ranked 87th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Somerset Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Christian Smith, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 19 points and five boards, and Xavier Anderson, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points and four steals. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahlon Blain, who posted seven points and five assists.

Mountain Brook is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. As for Somerset Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.

Mountain Brook will look to defend their home court on Friday against McAdory at 5:30 p.m. McAdory knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Mountain Brook likes a good challenge. As for Somerset Academy, they will head out to square off against Miramar at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th.
