Baseball Recap: St. Paul Victorious

St. Paul's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Paraclete Spirits. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Fernie Soto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tristan Foster was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kalai Benavente, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

St. Paul was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paraclete only posted a batting average of .222.

St. Paul's record is now 12-7. As for Paraclete, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Paul will square off against Buena Park at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Paraclete, they will take on Bishop Alemany at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spirits are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
