Softball Game Preview: Barnwell Warhorses vs. Saluda Tigers

The Barnwell Warhorses will challenge the Saluda Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Barnwell 2.5, Saluda 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Barnwell is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering South Aiken just ended the team's 13-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Thoroughbreds by a score of 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Abigail Corley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Saluda's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Ninety Six on Wednesday. The Tigers skirted past Mid-Carolina 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 25th.

Saluda also got a great performance from Kylee McGlohorn as she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. McGlohorn has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Saluda saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miller Martin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Saluda's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Barnwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Barnwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saluda struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
