LaBelle hadn't done well against Mariner recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mariner Tritons. Winning may never get old, but the Cowboys/Cowgirls sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Beau Collier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ty Murray was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Elijah Williams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
LaBelle's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs across that stretch. As for Mariner, their record now sits at 9-4.
LaBelle will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Clewiston at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th. As for Mariner, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, an 8-0 win against Ida Baker on the 14th.
