Basketball Game Preview: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Wesclin Warriors

After both having extra time off, the Gibault Catholic Hawks and the Wesclin Warriors will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gibault Catholic has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 4.

Gibault Catholic saw some tournament action last Friday. They came up short against Metro-East Lutheran, falling 64-43. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 512th, while the Knights are ranked 159th).

Meanwhile, Wesclin posted their biggest victory since February 13, 2024 last Friday. They ended the year with a bang, routing Father McGivney Catholic 63-40. The Warriors pushed the score to 52-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Griffins cut but never quite recovered from.

Wesclin's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Gibault Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Gibault Catholic came up short against Wesclin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 55-45. Can Gibault Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
