Soccer Game Preview: Sunnyside vs. Nogales

Sunnyside and Nogales are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2019, but likely not for long. The Sunnyside Blue Devils will face off against the Nogales Apaches at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for Sunnyside and three for Nogales.

Sunnyside managed to keep up with Marana until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Sunnyside came up short against Marana, falling 5-1. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Tigers are ranked 47th).

Meanwhile, Nogales fell victim to Buena and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to the Colts.

Sunnyside's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5-1.

Everything went Sunnyside's way against Nogales in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as Sunnyside made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunnyside since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
