Basketball Recap: Starr's Mill Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Starr's Mill challenged Jonesboro on Thursday. The Panthers took a 69-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 64-60.

Jonesboro was led to victory by Jadarius Slaton and Calvin Goss. Slaton shot 62% from the field to rack up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists, while Goss went 10-for-15 en route to 22 points. Those five assists gave Slaton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Coley, who went 5-for-6 on his way to 12 points.

Starr's Mill's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Jonesboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Starr's Mill has already played their next contest, a 64-54 win against Mundy's Mill on the 20th. As for Jonesboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-44 victory against Griffin on the 20th.
