Softball Game Preview: Ashe County Huskies vs. East Surry Cardinals

The Ashe County Huskies will head out to square off against the East Surry Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ashe County will be strutting in after a victory while East Surry will be coming in after a defeat.

Ashe County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Watauga, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Huskies blew past the Pioneers 10-0 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Huskies considering their one-run performance the match before.

Maleah Lovell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Greer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nadilyn Eason, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for East Surry's offense. They came up short against West Forsyth on Thursday, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.

Ashe County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for East Surry, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
