Baseball Recap: Toppenish Comes Up Short

Toppenish had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it four. They lost 21-1 to the East Valley Red Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 last Tuesday.

As for East Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs.

For East Valley's part, Jaxon Byerlein and Brock Goodell dominated on the mound. Byerlein struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk), while Goodell tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Blake Gibbons, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Andrew McDaniel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Toppenish will face off against Ephrata at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.56 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Valley, they will square off against Prosser at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.86 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
