Softball Recap: West Anchorage Comes Up Short

West Anchorage extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Service Cougars. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

West Anchorage saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Chichenoff, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Service, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Service's side, McKinley Fuller was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Fuller has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

West Anchorage has already played their next game (against Kenai Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Service, they will challenge Colony at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
