The Cranston East Thunderbolts will head out on the road to square off against the Tiverton Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cranston East knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Tiverton likes a good challenge.
Cranston East's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Juanita Sanchez Complex as they made off with a 19-0 victory. The Thunderbolts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Lexi Montalban made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cranston East let Cydnee Meekins and Nevaeh Fatorma run wild. Meekins went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Fatorma went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Meekins has posted since back in April. Gianna Tocci was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Cranston East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Tiverton and Rogers, and Rogers kept the tradition alive. The Tigers fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Lia Doster put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Doster was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
Doster wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carlie Martin, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Cranston East's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Tiverton, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cranston East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tiverton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
