Baseball Game Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Compass Academy

The Lamesa Tornadoes will square off against Compass Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Lamesa fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Denver City on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 10-2 to the Mustangs. It was the first time this season that the Tornadoes let down their fans at home.

Michael Moreno was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jonah Muniz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Compass Academy came out on top against Coahoma on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. Compass Academy took their contest against Coahoma 7-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for Compass Academy.

BRADEN HOGAN was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Lamesa's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Compass Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lamesa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Compass Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
