Baseball Game Preview: Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets vs. Southern Nash Firebirds

For the first time this season, Roanoke Rapids will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Southern Nash Firebirds at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Roanoke Rapids is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. Everything went their way against Camden County as Roanoke Rapids made off with an 11-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The team relied heavily on Blaine Warren, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Collin Elias, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Southern Nash posted their closest victory since March 14, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Fike 7-5.

Isaiah Battle made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Battle was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

Battle wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Deans, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Roanoke Rapids suffered a grim 18-6 defeat to Southern Nash when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Roanoke Rapids avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
