Softball Game Preview: Washougal Panthers vs. Hockinson Hawks

Washougal hasn't had much luck against Hockinson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Washougal made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hudson's Bay, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 31-1 win on Friday. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Hockinson came up short against Columbia River on Thursday and fell 17-12. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Rapids recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Hockinson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Renee Waddle, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Maggie Ritton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Washougal's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Hockinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Washougal might still be hurting after the 20-6 loss they got from Hockinson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
