Game recap

Thurston (Springfield, Ore.) saw its 9-point lead dwindle to six, but still managed to hang on and beat North Medford (Medford, Ore.) 26-20 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a Corey Weick touchdown pass to Aaron Downes in the second quarter, the Colts led 13-10 at the half.

Thurston expanded its lead to nine points entering the fourth quarter. THS scored two times in the third, including once on a Kyle Watson touchdown run.

Downes stood out for the Springfield school in the win. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.

A 71-7 Thurston victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.

The win was a nice bounce back for Thurston, which lost to Grants Pass last week, 28-23.

In a 6A Southwest game next week North Medford (1-5) takes on South Eugene, and Thurston (3-3) will go up against Crater also in a 6A Southwest game.
