Baseball Recap: Conwell-Egan Catholic Wins Going Away Against Archbishop Ryan

Conwell-Egan Catholic not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 29, 2024 (when they won 21-0). They put the hurt on the Archbishop Ryan Raiders and Ragdolls with a sharp 11-1 win. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Raiders and Ragdolls, too.

Chase Forester spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joey Ortiz was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sean McGovern, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Conwell-Egan Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Conwell-Egan Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop Ryan, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-7.

Looking ahead, Conwell-Egan Catholic will head out to face off against Neumann-Goretti at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Archbishop Ryan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
