Softball Recap: St. Anthony's Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

St. Anthony never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on the St. John the Baptist Cougars with a sharp 17-0 win. The Friars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Nina Vandernoth looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since April 4th.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makayla Martinez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Juli Murillo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

St. Anthony's hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

St. Anthony's is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for St. John the Baptist, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Anthony's will host Ward Melville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. John the Baptist, they will take on Kellenberg Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
