Softball Game Preview: New Prairie Cougars vs. South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies

New Prairie hasn't had much luck against South Bend Saint Joseph recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will host the Huskies at 4:30 p.m. South Bend Saint Joseph took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on New Prairie, who comes in off a win.

New Prairie is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home last Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand South Central a 4-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Satellites: they've now won three in a row.

South Central's batters probably weren't too happy with Ava Geyer, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Randi Robakowski, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Maddie Humes was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

South Bend Saint Joseph kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of Mishawaka by a score of 11-10. While the Huskies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cavemen 4-0 in the first period.

New Prairie couldn't quite get it done against South Bend Saint Joseph in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
