Baseball Recap: Queen's Grant Gets the Win

Queen's Grant came out on top against Piedmont Community Charter on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Stallions narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Patriots 9-7. The game was the first time the Stallions have beaten the Patriots on their field since May 3, 2023.

Jonah Weiss was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Queen's Grant: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Queen's Grant got a massive performance out of Ryker Larson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Larson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrell Byrd, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Queen's Grant has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Piedmont Community Charter, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-13.

As of now, neither Queen's Grant nor the Patriots have any future games scheduled.
