Softball Game Preview: Pine Grove Cardinals vs. Kutztown Cougars

The Pine Grove Cardinals will take on the Kutztown Cougars on Thursday. Pine Grove will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Pine Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Trinity.

The team relied heavily on Callee Leffler, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Meadow Umbenhauer, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Kutztown has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.47 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over Loyalsock Township. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Kutztown is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Grove, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-2.
