Baseball Game Preview: Timberline Wolves vs. Capital Golden Eagles

Timberline is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Friday. They will venture away from home to face off against the Capital Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Timberline has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 14th.

Last Tuesday, Timberline didn't have quite enough to beat Boise and fell 6-5.

Timberline had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Vinny Peters and Garrett Mirel Peters tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Mirel tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Peters has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Logan Thistle was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Isaac Mills also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Capital faced Rocky Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Capital fell 5-1 to Rocky Mountain. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Grizzlies: they've now lost six in a row.

Capital saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Hays, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Timberline's record is now 2-7. As for Capital, their record is now 6-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Timberline has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Timberline couldn't quite finish off Capital when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can Timberline avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
