Basketball Recap: Las Animas Comes Up Short

On Friday, the Las Animas Trojans were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the Limon Badgers. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Las Animas had strong showings from Emma Netherton, who posted six points in addition to 14 boards and four blocks, and Jadann Eck, who put up ten points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Las Animas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Limon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kinslee Reystead out in front who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points. The dominant performance gave Reystead a new career-high in points. Gianna Humphrey was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight steals and seven boards.

Las Animas' defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Limon, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.

Las Animas has already played their next contest, a 22-17 loss against Swink on the 1st. As for Limon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-22 win against Deer Trail on the 1st.
