Athens and Towanda are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Wildcats will take on the Black Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Towanda likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Athens beat Wellsboro 35-22.

Karson Sipley was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 116 yards and four scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Athens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 316 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wellsboro only rushed for 90.

Athens didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Connor Garrison, Sipley, and Lucas Persun picked up one apiece.

Towanda never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Canton on Friday. They breezed past the Warriors to the tune of 41-14. Considering the Black Knights' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Towanda's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Athens, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Athens suffered a grim 34-13 defeat to Towanda in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Wildcats were down 27-6.
