Baseball Game Preview: Berkeley Prep Buccaneers vs. Cardinal Mooney Cougars

The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers will head out to challenge the Cardinal Mooney Cougars at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cardinal Mooney took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Berkeley Prep, who comes in off a win.

While Berkeley Prep's win against Carrollwood Day wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Berkeley Prep narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Carrollwood Day 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won nine in a row.

Rivers Kurland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Berkeley Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Mitzel, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney entered their game against Clearwater Central Catholic on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Cardinal Mooney fell just short of Clearwater Central Catholic by a score of 4-3.

Berkeley Prep pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Mooney, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 14-4.
