Baseball Recap: Manistee Find Success

Manistee took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Whitehall, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mariners sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Vikings on Monday. For the Mariners, this counts as revenge for the 19-2 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Eli Workman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Miles Joseph, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Manistee is undefeated when Joseph posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise.

Manistee is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Whitehall, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.
