Basketball Recap: Heard County Skates Past Greenville with Ease

Heard County posted their biggest win since January 23, 2024 on Saturday. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 79-52 blowout they got against the Greenville Patriots. For the Braves, this counts as revenge for the 67-49 victory the Patriots walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.

Leading Heard County to victory were Gray Hester and Cameron Ogletree. Hester dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Ogletree almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. That's the most boards Hester has posted since back in December of 2023. Amir Morris was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.

Heard County was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenville only posted three assists.

Greenville's loss came despite strong showings from Marquel Derring and Shaun Moreland. Derring went 9 of 12 on his way to 22 points along with five boards and four steals, while Moreland went 7 of 11 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. Moreland continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Heard County's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Greenville, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Heard County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-37 defeat against Temple on the 7th. As for Greenville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-33 loss against Bowdon on the 7th.
