Basketball Game Preview: Williams Bulldogs vs. Asheboro Blue Comets

Williams hasn't had much luck against Asheboro recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Williams Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Asheboro Blue Comets at 7:00 p.m. Williams is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Last Friday, Williams took their match with ease, bagging a 54-16 victory over Southern Alamance. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

Williams can attribute much of their success to Ry'Leigh Surles, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 15 points and four steals, and Madison Harris, who posted 11 points. Harris is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Scott, who had six points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Asheboro played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Uwharrie Charter Academy and fell 52-18. The Blue Comets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Williams' win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.7 points. As for Asheboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Williams ended up a good deal behind Asheboro in their previous matchup back in January of 2021, losing 75-59. Can Williams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
