Basketball Recap: Bishop Verot Takes a Loss

Bishop Verot was the 49-41 winner over First Baptist Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bishop Verot Vikings took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the First Baptist Academy Lions on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Bishop Verot lost, don't look at Jerry Ashley. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 7 on his way to 13 points in addition to eight boards and eight blocks. That's the most blocks Ashley has posted since back in December of 2024. Gavin Williams was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Bishop Verot's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-8. As for First Baptist Academy, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 22-1.

Bishop Verot won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Golden Gate at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bishop Verot is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for First Baptist Academy, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the First Baptist Academy Lions challenge the Barron Collier Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
