Softball Recap: Westbrook Wildcats vs. Marfa Shorthorns
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Aspermont, Westbrook was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Marfa Shorthorns 12-11. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bryleigh Larsen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Westbrook got a massive performance out of Savannah Chavez, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Chavez a new career-high. Lillian Gibson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Westbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .541. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-8. As for Marfa, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Coming up, Westbrook will head out to challenge Borden County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marfa, they will challenge the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
