Softball Game Preview: Talladega Tigers vs. Munford Lions

Talladega is 1-9 against Munford since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Talladega Tigers take on Munford Lions at 12:00 p.m.

Talladega is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Anniston.

Meanwhile, Munford came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Lions have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brooklyn Pressley was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Pickette, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jena Gaither also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Munford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Munford pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Talladega, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Talladega might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Munford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Talladega avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
