Basketball Game Preview: Gatewood Gators vs. Brentwood War Eagles

Gatewood is 0-10 against Brentwood since January of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Gatewood Gators will face off against the Brentwood War Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Gatewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They snuck past Southland Academy with a 40-36 win.

Meanwhile, Brentwood earned a 62-49 victory over Central Fellowship Christian Academy on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the War Eagles.

Gatewood better focus on containing Cadence English and Bailey Barron as the pair were huge in Brentwood's win. English went 10-for-18 en route to 29 points and seven boards, while Barron dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Barron continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Callie Jones was another key player, putting up three points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Brentwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Gatewood's record now sits at 11-13. As for Brentwood, their record now sits at 18-6.

Gatewood came up short against Brentwood when the teams last played back in January, falling 42-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of English, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds. Now that Gatewood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
