Preview: Myrtle Hawks vs. West Union Eagles
Myrtle is 2-8 against West Union since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Myrtle Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the West Union Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Myrtle will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 299th, while West Union is ranked 33rd).
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Myrtle, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 66-48 loss to Falkner. Myrtle has not had much luck with Falkner recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, West Union came tearing into Friday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 77-66 win over Okolona. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Myrtle has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 17 of their last 19 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-27 record this season. As for West Union, they pushed their record up to 26-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Myrtle was dealt a bruising 88-34 loss at the hands of West Union when the teams last played back in November of 2023. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Myrtle was down 54-18.
