Basketball Recap: Eastside Comes Up Short

Eastside fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Cosby on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 80-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 102nd in Virginia, while the Eagles are ranked 284th in Tennessee).

Eastside is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-3. As for Cosby, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Eastside will challenge Rye Cove at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Spartans their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Cosby, they will square off against Cumberland Gap at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 62.1 points per game this season.
